Taking Children Seriously, again

I got a nice note yesterday from Sarah Fitz-Claridge, the founder of Taking Children Seriously, a parenting philosophy I discussed here a couple of weeks ago. Her note was gracious in both tone and content, thoughtful, thorough, and clarifying. Apparently, I am not the first person to get a distorted idea about TCS from the article on seatbelt use at the TCS website, and she has removed it from the website for now. A new TCS website is in the works, which she hopes will make the philosophy clearer to readers.

I will check the new site out when it's up and let you all know what I think. In the meantime, I see that Elliott Temple has posted a clarifying comment about coercion here, which you might want to look at, and if you want to go straight to the horse's mouth, the new TCS blog has launched. There, you can see that Fitz-Claridge called my entry about TCS "interesting and thoughtful." This was after I called her an extremist, so I conclude that she has a great deal of class.

She's "classy" because honesty doesn't get you followers.
